BUCCLEUCH GUNDOGS - THE MANAGEMENT

David Lisett and Sue Hewitt  make up the Buccleuch Kennel team at Chapel, each bringing with them their own expertise and experience.

DAVID LISETT
Kennel Manager

David joined Buccleuch Gundogs as handler/trainer/breeder on 12 January 2004, arriving with his wife Liz and young son Scott. Before joining the Buccleuch Kennel, he studied building technology, carpentry and joinery at Ayr College and trained gundogs in his spare time.  His interest in gundog training began while working on his uncle's farm as a young boy, where he gained experience by working with Collies.

He began training Labradors and English Springer Spaniels in 1991 while participating in a number of shooting syndicates.  He entered his first field trial in 1998 and has gone from strength to strength having a combination of successes throughout his career, including winning both the Irish and British Spaniel Championships.

David has been a member of the Scottish National Gundog Team since 2001 and is thrilled to be Kennel Manager at the bespoke Buccleuch Kennel at Chapel which opened after major refurbishment in 2006.

SUE HEWITT
Assistant Kennel Manager

Sue Hewitt joined the Buccleuch Kennel at Chapel as Assistant Kennel Manager in September 2008.  She comes from Lincolnshire, and has a grown-up son and daughter who are remaining there in the family home.  Sue’s husband, Wayne, works for Conoco Phillips but will stay with her at Chapel when onshore.

Sue was brought up with working dogs from a very early age.  Her father was a local wildfowler spending his time organising working tests locally, trialling with retrievers, and picking up and the young Sue often joined him while out training the dogs.  She always kept working dogs but it is only in recent times that she has been able to get out again on a regular basis either beating or working the dogs.  She also helped out at tests held by her local Gundog Clubs and helped gamekeepers through the summer months with rearing, pen maintenance etc.

Previously, Sue was employed working with profoundly handicapped children concentrating particularly on their mobility.  Other positions include working with British Telecom and retail.  She brings with her a variety of skills, knowledge and experience which can only enhance her work at the Kennel.  Sue is thrilled to have this wonderful opportunity to join the Buccleuch Kennel, and in particular work with David Lisett, in what she sees as her ‘dream job’ – working with such excellent dogs full-time as part of a successful team.
