Buccleuch Gundogs held the last ferreting event for March last week. Ian Drake had brought a team of guns up from down south to enjoy a day on the rabbits on some of the Buccleuch estate hills.
The party was here for two days and had some really good weather (organised by Ian himself he claimed!!) The guns returned home on the Friday after achieving a really good bag total.
There were a few handlers using the event to train their dogs using the long retrieves, terrain, fences and drystone walls for experience. Nick and Jo brought their Labradors, Kirsty her mix of Golden retrievers and Labradors and the Buccleuch Gundogs mix of Cockers, ESS, and Labradors also gained experience from the day. It was good to see the way the dogs progressed over the days. Thanks also to Wayne for bringing his camera and getting some great shots of the days events.
The biggest character of the day was Stumpy a pole cat Jill ferret who was recovering from a recent operation on her tail but was running around as her normal self with a tail like a rat. Sadly one of the Labradors decided she was more fun to retrieve than the rabbit it had been sent for but spat out quite quickly. Stumpy got her revenge later by gripping it with her teeth the first opportunity she got.
