THE SCOTTISH GAME FAIR 2009
SCONE PALACE, PERTH, 3RD, 4TH AND 5TH JULY
BY KIND PERMISSION OF THE EARL OF MANSFIELD
This years Game Fair at Scone was another successful event which was not spoiled by bad weather and was run efficiently and successfully.
The Gundog events throughout the whole weekend were organized and held under the Kennel Club rules and were set to test the skills not only of the dogs but of the handlers showing the level of control they would have over their dog when faced with a variety of situations when out shooting. Situated on the island in the River Tay the event is excellently situated for the many spectators who come and watch and give their support.
The Novice tests were held on the Friday and two of the handlers were ones who had come along to the kennels for training with their young spaniels, also Sue who works at the Buccleuch Kennels ran her young 14 month Springer Spaniel, for all three handlers it was their very first tests. The three handlers must have looked so obvious as they were full of nerves that morning, and were grateful to Roy Green, Buccleuch Sporting Manager (see picture) for his encouraging words before the event began. It was good to see how they dealt with the nerves and demonstrated good skills and control once it was their turn. Both Sue, James and Sandy wanted to have another attempt at the test once they had had their turn and realized their mistakes. All are looking forward to their next trial with anticipation.
On the Saturday David our Gundog trainer competed with two of the Buccleuch Spaniels in the Open test. He admitted afterwards that he has had better days and obviously nerves got the better of him.
David and Sue complimented all who had helped organize the event and judged. There were so many involved and had given up their time to make it a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
