Courtyard
The Kennels were orginally the Chapel Farmhouse and Steading which have now been refurbished to an exceedingly high standard by our in-house craftsmen to acccommodate the various kennel areas and house the renowned Buccleuch gundogs. These include the historic Labradors, whose gene pool dates back to 1825, and the champion English Springer Spaniels and Cockers. Visiting dogs, whether for mating or training, can also be housed here. The Kennel is set amongst the stunning Nithsdale countryside, ideal terrain for training exercises.
The Courtyard forms the central area of the Kennels and has been traditionally cobbled with a large stone Buccleuch 'B' logo forming a focal point in the centre. Surrounding the Courtyard are the various kennel buildings, such as the visitor centre, the main kennel block, the puppy block and exercise pens, the isolation area, and the kitchen. Young dogs can be trained here at night using security lights. The Chapel Farm Flat is also situated here so that the Trainee Dog Trainer can be close at hand providing on the spot care.
